Karen GoodSmith Artist
"My work as a watercolorist is a continuum of my many years of involvement with art. I have loved painting with oils, sculpting with clay, working with pottery, ceramics, lithography, weaving, and floral design. All of these art forms have provided wonderful vehicles for my artistic expression and they have formed a pathway of sorts leading me to the medium I have come to love most, watercolor. For me, watercolor, with it's brilliant colors, crispness of detail, and remarkable transparency, is unsurpassed in its' ability to yield paintings possessing such vibrancy, lightness and beauty."
When traveling, Karen and her husband Ed gather reference material for her landscapes, seascapes, and village scenes of Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Nova Scotia, Mexico, The Caribbean, and, of course, beautiful Wisconsin.
"Each painting is a glimpse of life, past, present, and future. I always wonder who traveled the roads, built the barns, planted the flowers, were aided by the lighthouse beacons, laughed with friends in the cafes, and gazed out from balconies with so many dreams and stories to tell. Enter into my work and allow yourself a gentle daydream of another place and time."
Karen has been painting for as long as she can remember. As a high school student, she was awarded scholarships to the Chicago Art Institute, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Michigan State University. Her work has been displayed in local galleries and juried into Museum and Fine Art Fairs in the Chicago and Wisconsin areas.
